Let's Get Ready To Rumble!

So I mentioned on Friday's post that I had plans that evening. It's not often I actually go outside. Okay that is a bit of an exaggeration. I go outside when I have to. What is kind of rare though is for me to go someplace I know lots of people are going to be. But that's exactly what I did. This past Friday I went to my first ever wrestling event.
I got some nice kid there to take this
It was a very small town show. They literally only had about ten guys. It was a hell of a lot of fun though. I was expecting to enjoy it but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did; especially because I mostly went to see one guy in particular. He's called Bram and he's from just down the road. Pretty much literally. He's from the town I went to by train on Saturday for my mum's birthday. It was ten minutes away and it was the first stop. During the course of the show I came to enjoy everyone there though. They said they were coming back in December and, whether Bram is with them again or not, I expect I'll go back too.
I am a massive geek
I hope I'm slightly less awkward next time though to be honest. I've talked to people more famous than Bram in my podcast but because there were so many people around me I barely said more than a few sentences to him. I wasn't star-struck, just being hurried along. I didn't get to say what I wanted to say to him.

I wanted to thank him for being the closest thing I've ever had to a home town hero and for getting the small town of Chesterfield mentioned in a wrestling show. No matter where anyone from England is actually from they're always billed as being from Manchester, London, or Liverpool.

Bram is a small town guy, and he got them to say that small town. That makes him alright by me. If he comes back in December I'll tell him then. He's actually going to wrestle in Chesterfield in September. My sister lives there so I'll get her to keep an eye out and see if I can go to that show too.
He's also really oily. I got to touch him no less than five times and each time my hand came away greasier.

  1. Ah, local events. Nice to hear you had a great time. Next time, bring a pot of grease and ask him to sign it. ;D

  2. Sounds like a great event. I'm afraid my knowledge of wrestling doesn't extend past Big Daddy & Giant Haystacks on World of Sport on a Saturday afternoon with my Great Nan. Sadly all have long since passed.

Chesterfield is a lovely town, I've a few friends from Chez and I've been there loads of times.

  3. Glad to hear you had such fun Mark! My husband is a wrestling fan, not me!

  4. Ooooo, wrasslin'! Bram looks like Rollo in "Vikings." You should send him a link to this post -- betcha he's on twitter or FB or something. You know, building up his fan base.

  5. You thanked him for being a hometown hero but did you thank him for saying what needed to be say-ed?

(Glad to hear you had fun!)

  6. Did Bram win?

    Do people win at wrestling?

  7. Bram looks like an outstanding physical specimen!

  8. Sounds like a cool event. Good for you!

  9. Sounds like a cool event. Good for you!

  10. Woah you met Bram, actual Bram.. I'm shocked there weren't more people at the event if I'm being honest when they're able to book wrestlers good enough to make it in America. Glad you had such a great time buddy, I wish more people like you would attend local wrestling events.

Don't forget to subscribe to comments so you know if I say something back. If you want that is.
