Determining Worth

I'm a freelance writer. It's something I've mentioned before, but not often enough given some of the things I get to write about. Really if I ever find myself not sure of something to write about I'm sure I could just write about some of the stuff I've been paid to write about. I have two main services; I write original articles and I rewrite others.

If you'd like to hire me you can do so by clicking to the right!
I recently decided to alter my prices and value myself a little better. At least as far as rewriting goes. When I started it up I decided to rewrite 750 words for $5. I wanted it to be better value than writing an original article because I wasn't really putting in any research to rewriting an article. I considered it less work. This value for money was the reason I've been able to bring in so much money. Almost 90% of my hires, if not more, are for rewrites. I've kind of reached the peak of what I can earn using my current pricing and, honestly, it's not enough. I'm doing too much work and not getting paid enough for it. So I restructured.

I now rewrite 600 words for $5. This may not sound like much less but it really is. It means I get burned out less and I'm earning slightly more. It's my hope that with this new pricing model I'll be better able to manage my work and increase my earnings a little bit more. I doubt I'll ever feel comfortable charging more than $1/100 words but, for now, we'll see how this goes.

I messaged some of my bigger clients personally to make them aware of the change. So far everyone who replied told me they supported my decision and thanked me for letting them know. That was nice of them.

Remember folks that value is about more than just price. Value is quality/price. With the quality of my work (Over 250 4/5 star reviews!) the price was ridiculously good value. Now it's a little more expensive, but still great value. Here's hoping the move works well for me and I'm able to bring in slightly more money.

If people weren't bored to tears by this post then maybe I'll be more comfortable talking about work in the future.

It's The Day After My Birthday

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. I got a lot of surprising ones actually, especially the ones from my clients. Here's some things to amuse you all.
It's nice when two businesses work together in harmony

I do most things quietly

I love it when a plan comes together

Someone get this man a horny single!

It's the little victories that matter

Damn straight

Well now I'm sad

I'd totally watch this movie

I'm adding that to the jokebook

Have a good weekend folks.

It's My Party And I'll Cry If I Want To

I forgot to write this post up in advance so it's a little late but it's also live, so there is that. If you've been around for a while and you have a good memory then you know what day today is. It is the anniversary of the day I vomited forth from my mother's womb. Or, to put it nicely, my birthday. Don't worry though I don't plan on doing any crying.
I even baked my own cake this year. Here it is before I put it in the oven.
I feel much better about this birthday than I did the last one. Last year I was a damn emotional mess on my birthday because I felt I had lived 25 years and not really done anything worth a damn. Today I actually earn an income, even if it is only a moderate one, and I'm in a much better place overall. Except my weight really. After today I'm entering a competition with my friend to lose the most weight though. Her own weight is getting away from her and it's best to nip that in the bud. We're going to compete to see who can lose the most weight by the end of the summer.
Here is my cake in the oven
I planned on not doing any work today for that matter. I'm still stuck with some though. I did get a few nice birthday wishes from clients who know it's my birthday. That was pretty awesome. I don't dislike the idea of working on my birthday. My boss did it yesterday. I'm just going to have a very busy day even outside of my birthday. I'll be out of the house for a good 4-5 hours today. I have my weight loss stuff, I'll be buying birthday stuff (I'm getting a PS3) and I get to cap everything off with a doctor's appointment.

My cake when it was done. Not absolutely absolutely awful. I'll let you know if eating it kills me
Well the day got off to a decent start. Let's see where the rest of it goes.

PS Yes; a part of me does enjoy the fact that I'm "26 on the 26th".

Let's Get Ready To Rumble!

So I mentioned on Friday's post that I had plans that evening. It's not often I actually go outside. Okay that is a bit of an exaggeration. I go outside when I have to. What is kind of rare though is for me to go someplace I know lots of people are going to be. But that's exactly what I did. This past Friday I went to my first ever wrestling event.
I got some nice kid there to take this
It was a very small town show. They literally only had about ten guys. It was a hell of a lot of fun though. I was expecting to enjoy it but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did; especially because I mostly went to see one guy in particular. He's called Bram and he's from just down the road. Pretty much literally. He's from the town I went to by train on Saturday for my mum's birthday. It was ten minutes away and it was the first stop. During the course of the show I came to enjoy everyone there though. They said they were coming back in December and, whether Bram is with them again or not, I expect I'll go back too.
I am a massive geek
I hope I'm slightly less awkward next time though to be honest. I've talked to people more famous than Bram in my podcast but because there were so many people around me I barely said more than a few sentences to him. I wasn't star-struck, just being hurried along. I didn't get to say what I wanted to say to him.

I wanted to thank him for being the closest thing I've ever had to a home town hero and for getting the small town of Chesterfield mentioned in a wrestling show. No matter where anyone from England is actually from they're always billed as being from Manchester, London, or Liverpool.

Bram is a small town guy, and he got them to say that small town. That makes him alright by me. If he comes back in December I'll tell him then. He's actually going to wrestle in Chesterfield in September. My sister lives there so I'll get her to keep an eye out and see if I can go to that show too.
He's also really oily. I got to touch him no less than five times and each time my hand came away greasier.

Doing Something Cool Tonight; Details Monday

Until then take this. Woo for having a life. Sorta.
I need to slip this into casual conversation more

What kind of question is that anyway?

Down with stairs!

It's not "To be" it's "B2"

That's my approach

...yes. They are.

Random d'awww outta nowhere!

Don't lie to your kids folks

I need to go to an aviary

I bet that thing tastes delicious

Pranks gone wrong

Now it is late into May so you'll likely have a lot of catching up to do.

If there's a bad grammar Nazi joke I've not heard it
Have a good weekend folks!

I Don't Think That's How That Was Supposed To Go

Do you ever have one of those days where it's like nothing really goes your way? Where it seems like everything goes wrong? You bet your ass I do. I had one just yesterday in fact. A rough start gave way to a rough middle before a rough end came and gave me one last kick in the dick before the day was done.
Don't forget the classic cunt punt
Indeed, to explain everything that went wrong would make for a tiresome and boring post. I also just hate whining in general. You either do something about it or you don't. It's one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of discussing my personal life much. Most of my problems are things that can't be changed so I don't see the point in discussing them. I just made a shit ton of mistakes. I was able to make a serviceable cheese and onion pasty in the end though. My dad ate the other one but didn't comment on it. He's still alive at least and so am I so it can't have been that bad.

Yesterday wasn't a total and utter write off either. I managed to organise my birthday present for my mother. By which I mean I went to a cash machine. She's planning on moving house because she doesn't want to live in the house she shared with my stepdad and where she was when his mind started to go. I can't blame her for wanting to get away from the bad memories. But moving house means spending money. Hopefully the £50 I slipped into her birthday card can help with that. It was what I was originally going to give her before my dad told me she planned on moving anyway.

No one tell her what I got her!

Though seriously, between that, my birthday next week, a weekend trip I'm taking I'll tell you about some other time, a potential day trip, a dentist appointment, and a holiday, I better get used to being poor despite having a job now. Oh and my dad's birthday is in September and the present I have in mind for him is £150.

It's cheaper than the trip to Rome I would liked to have given him, which would be at least £1500 including spending money.

Sheesh. Will I ever have enough money to finally start driving lessons? Probably not, no.

Not All Experiments Succeed

I mentioned during my post about making a lasagne that the sauce used could also be used for chilli and spaghetti bolognese. I love Italian food so I decided to give that a go this time. I'm pleased to report that particular experiment was a success. I knew what I was doing after all. The only problem is that, once again, I made too much. I also didn't really have a way to store the spare stuff, or make so much it would be two servings. I have some lean mince now so at least the next time I make too much it won't be absolutely awful for my waistline. Just mostly.

Over the weekend I tried another experiment but this one didn't go so well. See I also bought a lot of potatoes because the organic stuff was on offer and potatoes were the only other thing I was likely to eat. So what do you make with potatoes, eggs, and onions? That's right you make a Spanish omelette. Or you try to at least. Which is about as far as I got.

See the way you make a Spanish omelette is to grill up your vegetables and potatoes first, and then mix that in with the beaten eggs that will become the omelette. I think my first mistake was using too many vegetables. It was obvious as soon as I mixed the vegetables and the eggs that there were too many vegetables. I also overcooked them.

The real problem came when I tried to turn the omelette over and put it on the plate and I saw that the entire underside was basically charcoal black. So yeah, not all experiments succeed. But at least I tried. I took a look at a recipe and went into it thinking I could do it. I made another mistake with the potatoes yesterday too in fact. I boiled some potatoes to have with a regular omelette and forgot to prick them before putting them in the saucepan. They were in there for a good 10-15 minutes and still weren't soft.

Bloody hell.

Remember the basics people! In all things you do!

Friday Is Here Again

Friday always rolls around doesn't it? Not that I'm complaining. Then again I'm a freelancer. Weekends don't mean much to me.
No one knows what a kadabra plushie looks like because this always happens. Also I need more Pokemans plushies.

Don't fuck with geese cos you don't want them fucking with you
If there's a bad "that's what she said" joke I haven't heard it

This really would mean that everyone gets infinite money

Dah-ling you look fabulous

If this was me I'd say that because she won she has to go get the kids

This is the dad I want to be

Fun fact! I did play football in school!

Can we return that gift?
Damn right I will!
Have a good weekend folks!

To Deliciousness!

I think I mentioned before that a friend was going to help me cook things. I definitely mentioned resupplying my kitchen. Well yesterday was the first time that we tried to put something together. She asked me what one thing I would like to cook was and I replied lasagne. Because it is. I love a good lasagne. My problem with cooking lasagne is that I thought it would be difficult.

Honestly it was a little difficult, but not nearly as difficult as I was expecting. There's a lot of ingredients but everything goes together pretty easily. It turns out the meat sauce in lasagne is actually basically bolognese sauce and the stuff that chilli con carne is made out. I essentially learned how to make three meals.

Because dammit I made a lasagne.
It tasted better than it looked
I think the only thing that definitely went wrong was that the top layer of cheese was burned. The sauce was also a little too runny. But it really wasn't bad at all for a first attempt considering it was the first time I had done practically everything involved. Or at least the first time in a good while. As I used red wine to cook it I even got quite merry as I was eating it. I don't know if that term has left the Isles but it's basically that state of being drunk where you're not really drunk, but you feel kinda happy. Wine is pretty strong stuff folks.

I have some mince left over, as well as some of the meat sauce. So I think I'm going to buy some spaghetti and turn that into spaghetti bolognese. It'll be the first time I've made it without premade sauce. There's also half a dish of lasagne left so that's what I'll be having for my tea today.

God bless leftovers.

Kinda Depressed. Take This.

To be honest I'm too depressed to admit that I'm not depressed. So instead I shall just give you this song. It's an oddly fun sounding song even though the lyrics are about being alone in Heaven while your friends burn in Hell and basically deciding to go down to Hell together.

I hope I was able to embed that properly in German.

I'm Running Out of Pictures

So I cleared out some stuff on my computer. It included my picture collection. Turns out the internet isn't as funny as it used to be too. Ah well.

The more you know

I can't look women in the eyes either

She's always in another castle

...god dammit internet

His name was Robert Paulson

It's a good argument

Dammit Susan!

That's an unfortunate name

I still love this joke

Drunk me is just like me but more tired
Have a good weekend folks.
