Print Editions

One of the biggest reasons that people don't buy my books (other than not knowing they exist I guess) is that they don't have a Kindle, or would just prefer a print edition. I add the second part to that because evidently saying that I also don't have a Kindle, but have Kindle books through the wonderful computer program (also available as a mobile app, now gimme that money Amazon) isn't having much of an effect.

Buy a Kindle and I'll make money!
But that could be about to change! As well as running Kindle Direct Publishing which lets you publish on the Kindle, Amazon also has CreateSpace. CreateSpace lets you get books published in print form as well as on the Kindle. I got an email reminder about the fact I still didn't have a CS account and they asked me to sign up. I figured why the hell not and went through everything they wanted me to do. It ended up being a bit of work but I think overall it was worth it. One downside is that I couldn't just say "This is my book, go print it." I had to redesign the cover and reupload the file. That wasn't too bad though because it let me reformat it again and correct the last few tiny mistakes that had made it into the edited version. I'm a terrible editor it seems.

Of course you can still buy it on Kindle!
There's going to be some delay, but print editions are a-coming! I had to order a copy myself. What happens is that I order one, check it over when it arrives, and tell them that it's good for them to get others printed up. When I'm done with that copy I'm going to sign it and have a mini giveaway. I'll host a proper giveaway when Immortal Space comes out. When I do that I'm going to do it straight through CreateSpace because they let you publish through Kindle too. For some reason you can put something straight from CreateSpace onto KDP, but not the other way around. Anyway the original copy could take a few weeks to get here, so I'll let you know when print editions are completely set up.

To be honest I can't really think of any kind of related question...It's a debate that's gone on through the ages, and one I've even posted about; Do you prefer print books or an electronic library, like a Kindle?

  1. Print, simply because you can put those up in your shelf to appear slightly more interesting a person at face-value.
That's really cool though, that you're getting print versions! And IS coming up? GET HYPE.

    1. IS has been coming up for over a year now. I'll let you know when you can GET HYPE. But it is coming. Eventually. It's not dead yet.

  2. I have a CS account that I haven't put to use yet. One day. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I love getting that last chance to correct stuff before it goes to print. I have a feeling I'm going to need that. Congrats to you, Mark. Best of luck!!

    1. Thank you. Now go do something with your CreateSpace account! That mob story you were working on was great. Go get it finished.

  3. CreateSpace is great, isn't it? Easy to use, high quality stuff, and it's cheap. We don't have to charge our readers $25 just to read our books in print. Looking forward to seeing how the print version of yours comes out!

    1. Well it's cheap but I don't know about high quality yet. I'm still waiting on. The print editions will only be a couple of dollars more than the kindle version, so that's definitely a plus. I'll still be undercutting every major book outlet I've ever been to. Books are too expensive.

  4. I like a printed book a bit more than I do an Ebook

  5. I also don't have a Kindle, yet I have e-books out there.
I really do prefer the tactile (snooty, pretentious word) feel of an actual book, though.

  6. Gonna look into that Create Space thing, though.
"Shag Carpet Toilet" belongs to the masses!
    Meh...
