So Long And Thanks For All The Quorn

Two things to clear up before I begin; No I am not actually about to announce my retirement from blogging. The title is a reference to the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.

Two; Quorn is possibly one of the most well known meat substitutes. Although if you didn't know what it was then it probably isn't THAT well known.

So what am I getting at? I lasted a long time but I have decided that I will stop being a vegetarian. I originally started doing it to try and lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle and while I have lost some weight, it's pretty much all down to the work I've been putting in at the gym. I have been going insane there and I think that's one of the reasons I've also been so sick and tired lately. I am of the belief that my vegetarian lifestyle isn't able to really keep me going and support such a physically demanding schedule. I'm pretty good at listening to my body and when your body wants you to eat meat, you kinda have to go for it.

I'm not going to suddenly splurge on meat though and eat a ton of bacon and burgers. That would be pretty damn stupid. I'm going to take what I learned in my time as a vegetarian and try and live a much more balanced lifestyle. I do still enjoy some quorn products and will actually still keep eating them. I'm also going to take that vegetarian option more often.

I stopped eating meat for health reasons and as far as I'm concerned, I'm going to start eating it for the same reasons.

Plus everyone kept forgetting I was a vegetarian and kept offering me meat. Although really that's not actually a contributing factor to this choice.

  2. My daughter became a vegetarian a few years ago. She did it just because she wanted to try it. It lasted for two weeks I think. I'm glad she quit, only because I had to cook her tofu separately and there's only so many ways to make tofu taste good.

  3. I once heard of a basketball player who was a vegetarian and he injured his foot. He claimed his vegetarian diet kept his foot from healing, and when he began eating meat again his foot healed. I think it was Bill Walton of the Celtics, but don't quote me.

  4. Well, whatever keeps you alive I'd say. Sounds like meat indeed goes in there.

  6. I'm proud of you Mark for trying it out even though you've now dropped the vegetarian thing. I agree with your logic though, I honestly don't think that vegetables no matter how meat like they are would provide you with the energy you need right now to keep your body going through gym and everything else. At least you gave it a go though and found out it wasn't for you, I could never live without my meat!

I could never go completely vegetarian. I am such a carnivore.

  9. Never heard of quorn, but I used to love the stuffing out of some Boca burgers. Listening to your own body is something that I think everyone should do, but only the kick ass ones like you actually do it. Kudos, Mark!

  10. I think being a vegetarian isn't for everyone, it isn't for me I like my chicken and steak and yeah I have heard of quorn we have it here down under but I have never tried it, I would rather have the real stuff.

  11. I understand that it can be tricky as a vegetarian to get all the protein and iron your body needs. I think everything in moderation, as you say, balance is the key

  12. I sung the title like the song at the start of the film. My younger brother has read the book but I've still to get around to it! Go you, that's a really big decision and I must say - quorn is nothing compared to real meat!x
