Twenty Questions

This is more questions to free your mind but there's 20 of them because this is the last post to dedicate to them. Originally I planned on answering 20 of them in the podcast that didn't get made, but never mind. Enjoy this last mind explosion.

At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive? When I cried during the last podcast I made. That was just raw emotion, the truest sign that one is alive.

If not now, then when?
Well the biggest things really holding me back from doing everything I want are three fold: Mind, body, and money. You could argue that by writing and releasing a book I will be at least partly conquering my mind, and it will also help me conquer money if it is successful. I'm also working on both mind and body right now. When? When I'm ready. When I'm done.

If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
My dreams and the achievement itself. It's one thing to never chase your dreams but it's a whole other thing to have them stripped from you. Now that's a mind freeing question, would you rather pursue your dreams and fail, or never try?

Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?
No, that sounds a little silly. I've been in situations where no words are needed, and there is such a thing as a comfortable silence, but I don't think anything can substitute for an actual conversation. You can say a lot with what you don't say, but you still have to say something to truly not say anything.

Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
Because a lot of religious people are idiots and don't understand their own beliefs and concepts. Religion itself is not flawed, its practitioners are. I'm pretty sure that God doesn't want you killing, and certainly not in His name. Stop giving God a bad name. I think He's going to be a lot more pissed off with you than he is with the gays and the heathens.

Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
No because nothing is inherently good or evil. You can kill for "just" reasons, and you can save the "wrong" people. There is good and bad within everyone, and within every action they do.

If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
No because the money will not last. I would end up giving a lot of it away and saving the rest. Besides, my kids need an inheritance worth killing me for.

Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
More work I enjoy doing easily. I took a whole week off of something I enjoy to do something I enjoy more just to prove this fact.

Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
Not this day particularly, but I have felt like that before. Being stuck in a rut is a harsh reality and not one I particularly enjoyed. To feel like you're stuck on a loop. That every day and everything is the same and always will be. It's hard to break the cycle.

When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
Technically when I decided to write this book. I have no idea how it's going to go but it's something I had to do.

If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
No one. I would hold a huge party and invite everyone I knew. The ones that loved me and cared about me would show up. The rest, well I'm not going to waste my last minutes alive with people who don't want me.

Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
No, what kind of silly question is that? Would people really swap their life for fame and beauty? If you could you could never achieve beauty, and being famous would drive me to an early death I think anyway.

What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
There isn't one. There is a difference between existing and living though. The difference is feeling like every day is the same. If all you do is just the bare essentials, if you just follow a routine, then you're not living, you're merely existing. Switch things up a bit, do something fun, and truly live.

When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
Every time. If you know that something is the right thing to do, don't let Hell or high water stop you. Unless you can't swim.

If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Because no one wants to make a mistake. Some people also don't want to admit to themselves that there are things they don't know too. Mistakes are necessary, but that doesn't mean people want to make them. They want to feel like they already know, and like they can do no wrong.

What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
I'd probably be in the middle of an orgy. Well actually I don't know what I would do differently. Turn in to Robin Hood I guess. Go rob some banks, steal a ton of food, and take a massive cargo plane to Africa and start rebuilding.

When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?
Right now. I actually do it a lot though. Sometimes my breathing sounds a little weird. Or I'll notice I'm breathing quickly and wonder why.

What do you love?  Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
I love video games, writing, and music, and seeing as I've accomplished all three recently I would say that yes I am expressing it. I love my cats, and my feeding and stroking and taking care of them proves that.

In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday?  What about the day before that?  Or the day before that?
I can't remember much of what I did yesterday now. I never can do really. I might remember a time period, or say a major event, but I don't think I did anything too major yesterday. Which I guess is the point of the question. Are you making memories, and doing big things, everyday? Well, not everyone can.

Decisions are being made right now.  The question is:  Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?
I'm making the ones for myself that I can. I hate that other people make decisions for me, and one day hope to do something about it. It depends who it is though. I guess. And what the decisions are.

Well, there you have it. I hope your mind is sufficiently freed and expanded.

  1. These are some thought provoking questions Mark and not easy to answer. Many people don't bother getting round to thinking about them until they are middle aged. You're ahead of the game, young one!

  2. Good answers Mark, a million dollars just isn't enough these days haha. I love this series and I'm definitely going to do it soon myself, that question about having a conversation without words is admittedly ridiculous though haha.

  4. Hmmmmm. I think I could have a good 'conversation' with somebody without saying anything. My best friend and I are very good at conveying messages with facial expressions :P x

  5. These questions have been great. As I read your answers, I was thinking about my own answers and wow, I surprised myself...I might have to write my own answers down :-)
