The Piano

I was talking to a friend recently and she has some skill in playing the piano. I don't know about you guys but I find it to be an utterly beautiful instrument. I have always loved the sound of the piano and there even a few songs I'll listen to just for a little bit of a piano part. So, I thought that I would just share some songs that contain that most wondrous of instruments, and sound so much more beautiful for it, the piano.

The first one is one nearly everyone knows. Perhaps one of the most famous piano pieces ever, Moonlight Sonata. Which, for some reason, I always call Midnight Sonata. I don't know why. I should really fix that.

Speaking of sonatas, here's another one, Sonata Arctica. This song technically isn't a piano piece, but I would listen to it time and time again for the wonderful piano in it. Especially at the end.

And lastly, because I don't want to keep you for too long, the song My Immortal by Evanescence. My friend said she would like to know how to play this, and has the sheet music, so I'm not sure what's stopping her really.

God damn I love the piano. It's a shame I could never play it very well. Or at all. Despite being such a musical person, I always sucked when it came to actually playing it.

  1. I love the piano so much myself Mark that if I ever was to win the lottery or something I'd buy one for my new house and practice and practice until I became proficient at playing. These songs are all awesome buddy and it's great to see that I'm not the only one who appreciates such a beautiful instrument.

  2. I used to have piano lessons but I didn't have "piano playing fingers"! Mine are short and stubby and not long and elegant!

Thanks for the intro to the last two of these clips!!

    Take care

  3. Believe it or not, I used to play the piano as a child. My instructors name was *drumroll please* Kermit. As I got older, I lost interest in playing but I've never lost an interest in listening, it's such a beautiful instrument.

  4. I love the piano, but only for listening.

My mom made me take lessons for five years and I hated ever second of it.

  5. The piano is so damn cool. Too bad you need absurdly high dexterity to coordinate two hands like that. Really wish I could play it, so I could get myself a proper good synthesiser and rock out on that thing.

  6. That is some beautiful, amazing music. I have heard 'My Immortal' before, and it was great to listen to similar music. I have always wanted to learn to play the piano, but never really got time. But this is exactly the sort of music that never dies. And I like your blog, so I'm going to follow you now :)

  7. I used to think the piano was boring when I was a kid, but now that I'm grown and play drums, I appreciate just how awesome the instrument really is.

  8. I love the piano. I tried to get my friend to teach me the Harry Potter theme tune but he never did. :( I wish I could play the piano. Actually, I wish I could play any instrument! x

  9. The piano is an awesome instrument. I think being an Elton John fan is what helped me arrive at that opinion.

  10. Yeah, gotta love the piano.
It seems so simple to play and yet sounds so beautiful and actually f'ing hard to play..
I've played the guitar since a couple of years and recently started playing the piano and imagined it to be way easier.
Check out Mozdzner for some spine-chilling tunes!

  13. Maybe what's stopping "your friend" is that one cannot just sit down and play a new piece of music. It has to be worked through. *Gosh*

Should be properly ready by next year - if I'm lucky :)
