A Good Read

Another week, another solo effort podcast recorded at half past midnight where I began with no idea what the hell to do. In the end I started talking about what I've been reading lately. I have been on Skype more lately, but I've just not been on late at night when Bersercules is usually on. So we just haven't caught eachother yet. Solo podcasting wouldn't be so bad if I had more ideas, but as I briefly mention in the podcast, a lack of ideas isn't my real problem, a lack of drive, of motivation, is.

  1. I'm kind of with you Mark, I have some good ideas but no motivation to carry them through, it's a mindset that the pair of us do need to snap out of though, because without motivation we can't accomplish anything really.

  3. By the way, you could write about some time wih an amnesiac.
Or perhaps about someone skeptical about lotto, and winning a big jackpot.

    1. I think those things have been done by better people than me, or at the very least, would require planning, and be long. But thanks for the suggestions :)

  4. Hurray! I could hear again ;-)

I should maybe reread the Harry Potter series - although, I don't leave much time for reading books these days - all my reading time seems to be blogs.

What if you did a podcast about Trent? I have no idea how it would work... but the thought just came to me so I thought I would mention it.

    1. Reading blogs is definitely something that slowed down my reading books. I was burnt out from all the blog reading. But Artemis Fowl is great, and the first book is only a few hundred pages long, it's a good way to get back in to reading :)

I hope to piece together the story of Trent in the book. In fact, soon we'll find out about a major part of his past.

  6. Welll...err...uhhh..motivation. Let me comment on motivation. I know I have ideas for posts mulling around in my head for awhile, and i'm like, "Uhhh. Yeah it's imperative for me to write about that." But then when the time comes to start writing, I am no longer jazzed about writing about the subject, because it's really an old idea. Sometimes if I write about something totally brand new, it feels more inspired. Then come back to the old idea, when that idea is feeling inspired again. And if I force myself to keep going, with pretty much anything, when I just really don't feel like doing anything, I get stressed out, and really burn myself out. If I'm totally burned out, i'm better off to retreat, and then just come back when I feel some life again. Though the problem becomes retreating too much. I also suffer from always aiming too high, then feeling immense disappointment when I miss my target by a mile. Sometimes lowering my expectations helps. I don't know. I haven't really figured life out yet, but if I ever do I will let you in on all the secrets. Here's a semi-idea for a short story: write a fictional story but make the characters some of your fellow bloggers, like say Bersercules and Nellie Vaughn. Since it's my idea, you should also include me as one of the characters, though I am one of the least cool bloggers...it still is not fair to not include me because it was my idea.

    1. It was your idea, but I don't know if I could do that. I'd have to know more about them. It is a cool idea though, and would be a great homage. You would also have a prominent part. You're one of the more cool bloggers. I think we suffer from similar problems. Another really bad thing is old ideas. Or just ideas that get put on the backburner. If you don't start writing about something as soon as you get the idea to do it, then you're screwed. You don't really want to do it any more.

    2. One day Mark the Rambling Person was hanging out with Bersercules the Berserk Herc and chatting, they were then interupted by Jimmy Fungus who told them he needed their help quick! Mark and Bersercules quickly sprung into action! (well as quick as two out of shape guys can) The trio then ran through the streets to Jimmy Fungus's secret lab (which is open to the public daily 8am-3pm) and started to enter it. That's when they were joined by Nellie Vaughn! So the trio became a quatro and they rushed inside and up some stairs to Jimmy's lab. While in the room full of cool science equiptment (including devices that can look into peoples houses, that Jimmy swears he never uses to look at girls showering, but Bersercules makes no such promise!) Jimmy explains to the others why he has brought them here! No not as a joke to rustle their Jimmies, but to try out his suppercool spaceship! So of course our group of awesome bloggers agrees and they all enter the spaceship built of stolen cars and bathtubs and blast off into space! (where they promply die!... just kidding!) In space they are bombarded with cosmic radiation (just like the fantastic four... cause thats what I'm ripping off right now) After this bombardment and the ships crash back to earth, which wasn't caused by the bombardment but by Bersercules accedentally hitting buttons for fun, our heroes emurge from the ship with super powers! Mark, can now turn invisible! (if no one is looking at him!) Bersercules can streach really long... well just his penis... Hi ladies! Jimmy Fungus turned in to a super large powerfull ape that only says "that rustled my jimmies!" which makes talking to him hard but not imposible. And Nellie Vaughn who lower regions have caught fire (not cause she's not had sex for 466 days, but cause of the cosmic bombardment!)
There, out side the burning wreckage, our heroes stand, the awesome, the cool, the Craptastic Four! New heroes for a new day! A lame day!

  7. Motivation is a weird thing, because blog ideas just come to me. I can't just sit and think about what I want to write. That'll never work. I just have to go about my day and let it come to me. So I guess my advice would be to not overthink things too much.

Also, Jimmy's idea with bloggers as characters would be awesome. I second that.

  8. I really enjoy your accent. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Chamber of Secrets in the weakest in the series. I still re-read it though. I think I've read all of the books once a year since 2005....

LOL an Irish criminal mastermind? I didn't know there was such a thing. We seem to be kind of bad at crime. I remember hearing a story recently about a guy who tried to rob a bank or something and when the guards came to arrest him a few days later he said something like "how could you tell it was me; I was wearing a mask!" Think that sums us up. ;) I'll have to check out the Artemis Fowl series. I've seen the books, but I never knew what they were about. They sound pretty good.

  9. Yes, yes we should chat again on skype, but yes, I am really busy... I WILL FIND THE TIME!!

Hey your life update is basically the same as mine!: Nothing new.

A Beer for the Showers comment is right on, don't over think ideas! Ideas work best if your minds free to process thoughts and ideas in the back of your head and then have you sit down and write it!

Your problems wont fix them selves and mentioning them wont fix them either... you have to be motivated to change! (good luck with that!)

  11. Aww sleepyhead, you yawned about a million times through that! I find it very hard to do things when I just don't want to! I have about a million (well...maybe not that much as my mum says I eat books) books I still haven't read and I always leave homework 'till the very last moment. I recommend the 'I Am Number Four' series and the 'Demon's Lexicon' series! x
