Ranting About Games

Hey everyone, it's Friday and I promised you a podcast today, so here it is! This isn't the one I was going to give you, but that means that you get one next week too! I'm going to do them as long as I have ideas, the same with blogging, but I'm going to limit myself to one a week. So for now you have this podcast here, and next week you can get another one. In this one I talk about preowned games, and the recent story that GAME and Gamestation fell out with EA and won't sell their games. Even if you aren't a gamer, you might find something of interest in there. Anyway, this is enough reading, time to start listening.

Again, it didn't work in the preview, if it won't work you can find it here; http://ramblingperson.podbean.com/2012/03/01/game-and-ea-a-tragic-love-story/

  1. Totally agree, it got me playing games I wouldn't have played due to cost but I do have a problem with how expensive pre-owned games are now especially what they offer you when you sell an old game to them!

    1. If you know where to go, or wait long enough, then preowned games can be cheap too. Most of my games are from buying 3 games for a fiver.

  5. Not enough people understand how companies take so much and give so little to the makers!

My grade ten science teacher told my class about an article he read (this takes place in 1998) that CDs (which cost 14-22 dollars to buy in the store) cost 50cents to make and 50cents goes to the artist! The rest of the money goes to the store and more importantly to the record company! thats a lot of profit!!

Glad to see your sticking with black march!

And companys only care about profit! thats the problem with buisness these days! People care about creating but companies only care about making money! and it ends up being counter productive to how the world should run!

I always hope more people will create their own stuff and companies will then have less to do with moives/games/books!

    1. Gah, I remember reading an article about that m'self.

Y'know what the REAL problem is? A lack of contentment. Business execs like living like rock stars, and apparently have completely forgotten how to be content with the profits they DO make. Hell, that's exactly why we're in the bind we are now, nationally speakin' - big business committing LITERAL class warfare, cutting jobs and attempting to create a cycle of upwards profits...at the expense of those who generate the profits.

I still think a mandatory "contentment class" for execs would be an interesting and possibly useful thing. That and Critical Thinking.

Make it a requirement for anyone with job title that's an acronym.

  6. I always find it amazing how much you can talk about a single subject, whilst not getting any response. I'd just rush through my opinions, and then, well, awkward silence? Also depends on my talking speed though, which can be pretty fast.

The whole "bluh bluh we dun liek 2nd hand gaems" thing is fucken stupid. It really doesn't harm anyone. It's been going like this for ages, anyway.

    1. Dude what did you mean by that first bit? O_o Anyway, they think it harms them because they're out some money. Even a small bit. That's just not right, right? Who cares about entertainment, we want money. Cheap bastards. If you can't afford to pay the full price then you shouldn't be playing.

  7. The EA-Gamestation split doesn't have anything to do with the pre-owned games thing. It's because Electronic Arts won't give Gamestation reduced rates on distributing their games.

Nevertheless, you have it right with the corruption of copyright laws. They don't protect the people they should.

Cunt is a swearword when used anything less than literally. Feel free to swear anyway though. Twat is also profanity for vagina though.

    1. Thanks for clearing up what the problem was for me. I wouldn't be surprised if EA did go that far eventually though because of their stance on pre-owned games. And on clearing up the swearing. I think I'm kind of likely to swear in a podcast, depends on the subject matter.

  8. The joys of intellectual property rights - it was one of the reasons I left biochemistry, the assay/test I developed got flogged for millions to a university and I saw jack

  10. EA needs to get their shit together. Their servers almost rendered Battlefield 3 unplayable.

    1. They're one of several places that need to get their shit together, but yeah EA really needs to.

  12. EA sux, I support Game.
If they fall out in Activision as well, their classy factor will go up 10%.

  13. Glad to hear that you'll be participating in black March.

I side with the Gamestation people. Pre-owned is great, as well as the creamy goodness that is your voice(that did make sense).

  14. Okay.. I'm sorry Mark, I've got to admit.. after the "creamy goodness" part, I just listened to your voice. I really adore the British accent.. XD When the podcast ended, I was like.. "Wait, what was he saying again?.. something about game and EA..". haha! I just listened to bits and pieces.. I gotta agree. old games like FFVII, no one is producing them these days.. That sucks.

With the Black March, a lots of my friends commented on my post about joining the campaign. Turns out, they're just words. Tsk tsk.. Sad..

    1. Well that's understandable I guess :P I'll try to make the next one something you really want to listen to :) Steam are producing a lot of old games that people aren't making anymore, and the Playstation network and Nintendo Marketplace too, so things aren't that bad, but some games still have to be bought preowned.

I'm being very good with Black March. I didn't even buy the stack of CD's I wanted to buy and I passed up the chance to buy a dvd I wanted and I had to buy my mum a cushion for mothers day because I couldn't buy her a CD or DVD. Though I'm not sure of her tastes so the cushion probably would have gotten picked anyway.
