The Weekend Still Means Something

Normally they say that when you're unemployed like I am, then the weekend really has no meaning for you. This is quite true for the most part, but I've noticed that since I started blogging the weekend has gained some meaning for me.

At first it only really meant that my niece(s) were coming down, so actually I had mixed feelings on the weekend lol. But when you spend most days at home, then really yeah the weekend isn't the great relaxing time it should be.

I got a few people telling me to take Saturday off blogging, but I don't think I'm going to, but even so my workload is much much lighter over the weekend. Not many people read the weekend posts, which means there's not much replying needing doing. Not many blog over the weekend either, which means that there aren't too many to read.

Typically when I go to sleep during the week, or don't check back for updates for a while, there can be about 10 or so updates for me to read through. When I wake up on Saturday or Sunday (even Monday sometimes due to time zones) there are say, 3, or 4. A lot less. Which means again that I have not that much to do with regards to blogging.

I actually dedicate a while a week to blogging, be it writing posts of my own, reading and commenting on posts of yours, replying to comments. If I was on minimum wage and this was a job, I think I'd make enough to get by lol.

As such, I have a lot more free time on the weekends, which actually isn't that great a thing, as I get bored easy. I'm not too good at handling boredom, but it is nice that the weekends have some meaning, and some value to me. I wonder if there is a way to find out just how much time I spend reading blogs and everything, besides simply timing myself. Maybe a Chrome extension that keeps track of how long I'm on a particular site or something.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend! I know I will. Or I'll try to at least.

  1. Blogging is a legit job! Be proud of it, you're not unemployed!

    You're a web-entrepeeneur.
    Or something like that.

  2. @Pieter Haha Well a web entrepreneur is more someone who sells things online. The only thing I'm selling here is my soul.

  3. the worst that can happen to you is that the times passes away without figuring out what day it is. You always can find a hobby you love and make a profession from that, is better low earning but enjoying something you do than no earnings at all.

  5. @Ornag3 I used to lose track of what day it was quite a lot really. I don't really have hobbies or anything I really do besides blogging.

@Mai Yang I used to think so too but now the weekend is good again :)

  8. I'm unemployed at the moment as well as I'm making video games on my own and I can understand what you feel about that!

To me though week-ends and week days are the same as I work almost 7 days a week! :)

  9. I think a lot of people take Saturday's off. Well, my view count always drops during the weekend for some reason.

  11. @Orang3 I learnt today what one is too, and thanks for that :)

@Jodie-Ann For me it kinda is, and as the place expands (hopefully) it will just be more so.

@Francis Caron Boy I wish I made vidya games. I think if you stopped work on them over the weekend, or worked on them less, you'd probably feel like me too :)

@DWei Same here, it goes wayyyyyyyy down. Way.

@My 2 Pesos For me they were, and I didn't really realise how much more free time I had on them until recently.

  13. I always have more to do on weekends. My friends don't have classes or work usually, and the whole world's ready to get fucked up. And me along with them.

  14. @Generally Disgruntled That's just one of the joys of having friends.

  15. Work out with that free time then. It sounds like you really have no legitimate excuse not to.

  16. Weekends are actually busier for me. I have to mix in work stuff plus taking the little guys around to see grandparents /etc.

  17. @Henry I do and at the same time I don't. My nieces are around during the weekend. Even though I have free time, I'm still limited until I can get my door put up for some privacy.

@Heaven At least you take them to their grandparents yourself :) Plus you get rid of them for a bit lol.

  21. I'd like to find out, what posts would attract more people during weekends..
Perhaps some short, picture heavy ones might do the trick.

  22. @Kage Hopefully that's just a shift in working hours and not a job loss. I think you've only just got your job, and you like it.

@Bob That would attract people on almost every day of the week lol, but especially on weekends when people aren't looking for much reading. I was originally going to post this on Friday, but then I read and had to share that news story. I put it up because it was still relevant, expect lazy posts next week.

  23. I have heard that weekends are quieter for comments and views but I blog regardless. Of course, my blog is usually just a way of journalling the chaos in my life.

You do what you enjoy. Blog when you want. It is your blog anyway

  24. @Mynx Well the rumours are true, and the blogging world does enter low power mode for the weekend. If this place was to journal the chaos of my life I'd have no readers by now lol.

  25. ahhaha. It does take an awful lot of time. But that makes you one of the best bloggers on the blogosphere cos of your replying to EVERY comment and commenting on everyone's blog.
So your loss is also your gain.

  26. Blogging is fun. Ask me- full time student and lazy bones:)
It gives me something to look forward to.

As for weekends, I always ALWAYS love going to sleep on Saturday night knowing that I have one whole day to waste and laze around, one whole day to just do what I please.
    I even wrote a post on it:D

  27. @Cricketfreak Yes it is time well spent :) Plus I do get some payback from people like you.

@PeeVee LOL Well that is true :) I don't realize how much free time I have on weekends. I don't like being lazy, but I still don't do the things I should be doing, which makes me seem lazy.
